Roundy's Joins the Community Garden Partnership to Fight Hunger in Wisconsin
On May 24, 2005 Roundy's Chairman and CEO Robert Mariano presented the Community Garden Partnership with a check for $5,000 to help the program's fight against hunger in the Fox Valley. The donation will help the Community Garden Partnership, a program of Goodwill NCW, expand its capacity to provide gardening opportunities and the use of green space to promote healthy living, self sufficiency and an opportunity for positive social interaction. "This is about supporting a critical program that feeds the hungry and does a remarkable job providing community services for those in need," commented Mariano, who is also president of the Roundy's Foundation. Susan Richardson, Urban Garden Coordinator for the Community Garden Partnership, said her organization is thrilled to have Roundy's support. "Through the Community Garden Partnership people have a chance to use or develop their gardening skills regardless of whether they do it to sustain their families, create additional income, provide a learning experience for their children or simply for the joy of gardening," stated Richardson. The Roundy's Foundation was created in 2003 to assist communities with hunger relief, families in crisis and literacy. Roundy's is the largest food retailer in Wisconsin with nearly 100 stores operating under the Pick 'n Save and Copps banners.
