5 chic Thanksgiving outfits
By Carly Fuller
What’s not to love about Thanksgiving? A whole day dedicated to grateful hearts and happy bellies. The beginning of the holiday season. Family and friends, football, a day off work and shoving your face with deliciousness in the form of Thanksgiving dinner. Count us in!
About that happy belly, though. Let’s be honest, we’re probably all going to eat too much and be left reaching for the stretchy pants. Before you resort to sweats, consider these five thrifted Thanksgiving outfits that are guaranteed to get you through the day feeling comfortable and looking chic.
Oversized sweaters are the cream of the crop for fall outfits and will fit perfectly into year’s Thanksgiving outfit lineup. Look for a jewel-toned sweater for a nod to the holiday season. Longer sweaters can be coupled with a pair of leggings, like these from Ann Taylor. We suggest looking for a pair with a heavier weight to them. No see-through leggings allowed! Complete your look with a pair of trendy knee-high suede boots and a plaid blanket-scarf.
One of the best ways to camouflage a Thanksgiving dinner pooch and increase your own comfort level is by opting for a high-waisted bottom. We not only like this skirt from Lane Bryant because of the higher waist, but it also features a pretty tie that adds visual interest, further hiding the belly. Plus, gingham checks are so trendy right now! Tuck in a simple black top, like this piece from Worthington, and add a statement necklace, black tights and black booties for a classic but stunning Thanksgiving outfit.
It probably goes without having to be said, but you may want to avoid wearing your favorite body-skimming dress for your Thanksgiving outfit. Instead, opt for one that is looser and flowing. This shift dress would glide right over all the right places but still look chic when paired with tights and some heels or booties.
If your Thanksgiving dinner is a little less formal and calls for something less dressy, pair some colored skinny jeans, like this Gap pair, with a top that flows away from the waist, like a peplum or empire style. For extra style points, we would add another layer, like this faux-fur vest. Throw on a pair of wedge booties to finish off this comfortable Thanksgiving outfit.
Perhaps your Thanksgiving plans include football, a couch and all-day grazing with friends or family. If that’s the case, maybe casual flannel and a pair of distressed jeans are the way to go. Pull your hair back into a soft bun to complete your casual look.
