6 kids’ Halloween costume ideas
Some things never go out of style and come Halloween season that means pirates and princesses once again will grace our porches at trick-or-treat time.
But in addition to the classics for kids’ Halloween costumes, it’s fun to see the creative Halloween costumes kids and families put together.
Here are both classic and creative do-it-yourself kids Halloween costume ideas.
Grandma baby: This Pinterest-worthy costume will turn heads and garner smiles, and it’s easy to see why. Who doesn’t love a pint-sized sweet little lady? Check out the Goodwill children’s clothing section for a handmade crocheted sweater and a dainty floral-print dress. Top it off with tights, fake pearls and wig made by gluing cotton balls onto a beanie. For directions on how to make a PVC pipe walker, follow step-by-step instructions here.
Witch: Go in all black for the traditional look or add a color theme like orange, purple, lime green or fuchsia. Must-haves for this classic costume include a pointy hat, broom and fun tights — think spider-web pattern or stripes. Go with a black dress or mix it up a bit with a solid long-sleeve shirt and a foo-foo tutu. Going as a family? Add Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Glinda the Good Witch. Cast your spell!
Pirate: Arrr! This popular costume choice is a fun one because there is no end to the accessories — eye patch, bandana, tricorn hat, sword, hand hook, stuffed parrot. Add any or all of them to such basics as a button-up white shirt, black pants, vest and boots. Looking good, matey!
Young MacDonald: Turn up the cute factor with this simple costume idea that can be put together at the last minute. You’ll need a plaid shirt, jean overalls, boots and a straw hat. Going with a sibling or a family? Add some farm animals or a scarecrow.
Shark attack: Thanks to the popularity of “Baby Shark,” this costume is on-trend and will have passers-by breaking out in song. In addition to a premade shark costume for the little one or a shark hat, you’ll need a lifeguard (shirt or sweatshirt with white shorts, white shoes or rubber clogs) and a surfer (swimsuit, beach accessories, sunglasses).
My deerest: This is a nonscary option that is ideal for the littlest of little ones. Plus, it will keep trick-or-treaters warm on a cold outing. Load up on lots of brown with fuzzy boots, leggings, faux fur vests, layered skirts and antler headbands. Do-it-yourselfers can have fun with this one!
