Explore plaid options that go beyond flannel
By Carly Fuller
When you think of how to wear plaid clothing, you probably think of a comfy flannel, but plaid is so much more than your trusty fall go-to. Think outside your comfort zone a little and mix it up.
Read on for more ways to wear plaid clothing this fall.
Outfit one: top
Need something dressy this season? This plaid Hollister top is a great versatile piece. The faux wrap detail in the front makes the top just dressy enough to be paired with a black pencil skirt. Add a chunky and bold statement necklace, a clutch and some pretty heels and you’re set for any fall event.
Another outfit option would be pairing the top with some black high-waisted distressed jeans. Skip the jewelry but top off the look with a black leather jacket and let your tough-girl vibes shine through.
Outfit two: jacket
Think of a jacket as an accessory to your fall outfits and you’ll really expand your options. In fact, when we think about how to wear plaid, our favorite is a plaid jacket. We urge you to reach past your standard black parka for something with a little bit more punch, like this jacket from Guess, and you may be surprised with how often you can pair it up. We’d wear this black and white beauty with a sweater in a jewel-toned color such as burgundy or emerald and a great pair of dark skinnies. The jacket also would bring life to a simple black dress.
Outfit three: dress
Sometimes fall weather doesn’t always equal cooler temperatures, but you can still incorporate plaid clothing without having to wear a flannel. Plaid doesn’t have to be saved for just cozy clothing and this dress from Halo is the perfect example. Pair it with knee-high brown boots to up the fall feel, or if the weather really is chilly, add some navy tights and a slouchy cardigan. Accessorize with a cross-body bag and a pumpkin spice latte in hand!
