New year, new you! Shop on a budget for ‘new’ clothes

Be the toast of the town! Ring in the new year while feeling like you’re at the top of your game by looking and feeling your best. New year, new you!

How about new clothes?

We know. It’s hard to justify spending money on yourself after doling out dollar after dollar on holiday gifts for everyone from Aunt Gladys to neighbor Stan. That’s the glorious thing about shopping on a budget and second hand shopping. You can achieve it all!

Buy second hand clothes to save and grab those new-to-you dynamos that make you feel like a million bucks to start 2019 off right. Cheers to you!

Buy second hand clothes to save.

You’ll find the brands you love at prices up to 80% off what you’d find in department stores. Plus, while some items are gently used, others never have been worn, and the phrase “new with tags” quickly will become your best friend. How great is it to pay secondhand prices for new-with-tags clothing!

Buy second hand clothes to experiment with fashion trends.

If you aren’t sure, for example, if faux fur vests that are so trendy right now are your thing, you can try the style on for size at a fraction of the cost, like this one from There is a Star in Every Woman that’s guaranteed to make you feel like the fashion maven you are!

If it turns out that they are way out of your comfort zone, you aren’t out a lot of money by trying the trend once and realizing it’s not for you. But return the favor to others and donate the rejected fashion trends back to a good cause like Goodwill. That way someone else can experiment.

Second hand shopping lets you wear unique clothing.

Because these typically are one-of-a-kind finds and once they’re gone they’re gone for good, you won’t see anyone else wearing exactly what you are. If you like to be an original, this is the way to do it — like with this floral kimono. No one wants to be that person who comes to work feeling on top of the world in a certain silver cardigan sweater only to run into Abby at the office water cooler wearing the exact same one.

  • This is so true, I bought 5 pairs of pants (jeans & dress) and only spent $38.00. Just love shopping at Goodwill of Oshkosh.
