Donation Express outlets make donation easier, accessible
Little Chute — The first week of operation at Goodwill NCW’s eighth Donation Express facility in the Fox River corridor has been nothing short of a success.
The new facility — adjacent to Larry’s Piggly Wiggly, 1921 E. Main Street — opened on Thursday, March 12, and accepts donations from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.
“Our first full weekend of operation was a great success,” said Dan Flannery, Goodwill NCW’s vice president for community relations. “Over the first four days, we had more than 80 donations, and we’re seeing great response as the spring-cleaning season continues.”
Goodwill NCW has established organizational records for donations since adopting a new donation philosophy several years ago, placing Donation Express facilities — storefronts that are staffed by Goodwill NCW team members, to help donors get their donations out of vehicles and into the facility — and more traditional donation bins in high-traffic areas.
In 2014, more than 44.2 million pounds of donated clothing, housewares and furniture were donated to Goodwill NCW, throughout its 35-county service area. More Donation Express facilities will be created in the next several years.
The resale of those donations provides financial support for the 27 programs and services in Goodwill NCW’s 35-county footprint.
Goodwill NCW’s Donation Express sites are intended to ease the donation process, with staffing and closer access in the communities served by the organization. The strategy has been successful, and plans are under way to create more Donation Express facilities across the service area over the next three years.
Aside from Little Chute and Kaukauna, Donation Express sites are in Neenah, Town of Menasha, Appleton (Northland Avenue), Oshkosh, Howard and De Pere.
