Goodwill partnering with Woodcraft
Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin makes and sells GoodWipers, wiping cloths made from recycled textiles diverted from local landfills, through its Contractivity! program.
The products provide job-skills training within Goodwill NCW programs and services to people who have barriers to employment while offering top-quality, low-cost wiping cloths to businesses and households. The cloths are essential to such industries as automotive, plumbing, paper manufacturing, welding, construction and custodial.
The products come in four varieties: heavy-grade cotton, colored knits, white knits and terry cloth and are packaged in 30- or 25-pound bags. They range in cost from 79 cents a pound to $1.47 a pound.
Woodcraft Supply, founded in 1928, has been a customer of GoodWipers since May 2016, selling white wipers in 2-pound bags in its stores and online.
Woodcraft Supply, found online at woodcraft.com and headquartered in West Virginia, is one of the nation’s oldest and largest suppliers of quality woodworking tools and supplies. Woodcraft stores are in more than 70 major metropolitan areas across the United States, and Woodcraft annually distributes 1.5 million catalogs across all 50 states and around the world.
The work and revenue Woodcraft provides for the Goodwill team are invaluable.
“We have been keeping six clients busy five days a week due in part to our business relationship with Woodcraft,” said Paul Brunette, industrial contracts and wipers team leader.
Revenue from the sale of GoodWipers returns to Goodwill NCW’s 29 programs and services and continues to provide valuable work experience to participants who might be unable to obtain employment elsewhere.
In 2016, GoodWipers diverted 80,455 pounds of material from landfills.
“Part of the charm of this relationship is the good work Goodwill does,” said Kent Harpool, Woodcraft product manager.
