Goodwill’s Menasha store to close, remodel during road work
Menasha — Goodwill NCW will close its Retail Store and Training Center at 1800 Appleton Road, Menasha, for 90 days during the road construction that will close or restrict traffic in front of the facility.
To build roundabouts on both sides of the State 441/Appleton Road exchange, traffic on Appleton Road will be hampered for 75 days, starting around April 20.
The Menasha store will close at the end of business on Thursday, April 16 and be remodeled over the next three months. The temporary closure will give construction workers adequate access to the building’s interior and exterior, and ensure the safety of customers, team members, program participants and others during the remodeling process.
The store — with updated external and internal branding, a slightly smaller retail floor — is scheduled to reopen in mid-July. Remodeling work will be done by R.J. Albright Construction of Oshkosh. The retail floor, currently at 13,960 square feet, will be reduced to 10,088 square feet.
Menasha store leaders, team members will work at Goodwill’s other Fox Cities stores and facilities during the store closure.
Goodwill NCW has 25 retail stores in its 35-county service area. Sales of donated and used merchandise in those stores provide revenue in support of the not-for-profit organization’s 27 programs and services, partnerships and facilities. More than 68,600 people were touched by Goodwill NCW’s mission in 2014.
Goodwill Industries of the Fox Valley purchased the Menasha building in 1975, a year before the organization’s name changed to Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin.
The Goodwill Community Center will be open and accessible from Valley Road during the closure. The Center is home to many programs and services supported by Goodwill NCW, home to the organization’s leadership team, and site of the Partnership Community Health Center, Fox Cities Workforce Development Center, Casa Hispana, Celebrate Diversity and JDRF’s Northeast Wisconsin Chapter, among others.
“We’re happy to accomplish several important things during this road construction,” said Wendy Shoemaker, Goodwill NCW’s senior vice president of retail and donated goods. “First, we take advantage of the situation to give our Fox Cities donors and shoppers an upgraded facility.
“Second, we’ll keep our team leaders, team members, customers, donors and partners safe, while giving the construction crew full access to the building.
“And third, we’re thrilled that we have the capability to place our team leaders, team members and 70 program participants in our other Fox Cities facilities until the Menasha store re-opens.”
Improvements to the Menasha store include:
- New, larger fitting rooms
- New lighting and flooring
- New bathrooms
- New donation drop-off area
- Improved check-out system
- Exterior and interior painting
- Refurbishing of the “Smiling G” logo on front of the store
Fox Cities residents who shop and donate at Goodwill’s Menasha store have options during the closure:
- Retail stores in Grand Chute (4759 Michaels Drive), Darboy (N189 Stoney Brook Road) and Neenah (907 S. Green Bay Road),
- the Goodwill Outlet Store in Appleton (1341 W. Spencer St.),
- eight Fox Valley Donation Express facilities (Howard, De Pere, New London, Little Chute, Kaukauna, Appleton’s Northland Mall, Town of Menasha, Neenah, Oshkosh);
- 45 donation bins in high-traffic locations throughout the Fox Cities and surrounding communities. Donation bins will also be placed on the Menasha Community Center campus, accessible from Valley Road, during the store closure.
