Goodwill donated 33 carloads of health and personal products to students in the Rice Lake Area School District in 2020 through Barron County Restorative Justice’s School Community Outreach Program, which is a voluntary early intervention program that addresses attendance and other concerns that are barriers to student success.

Students, families and schools work together to develop a strengths-based plan to support accountability, student engagement, behavioral and academic improvement. The goal of the program is to reduce the impact of social, emotional and economic barriers to student success by using evidence-based, restorative practices.

When the Baby Care Kit Committee at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oshkosh reached out to the Oshkosh Retail Store and Training Center for help in reaching their project goal, the team was happy to provide a large donation.

According to chairwoman Eileen Kuehl, the baby care kits go to countries when disasters hit the region as part of Lutheran World Relief. Neighbors in Honduras, Lebanon, Ukraine, Ecuador and Rwanda have been some of the recipients.

“We ourselves here had a goal of 50 baby care kits and to our surprise were able to send 67 kits,” Ellen said. “It was a result of you supplying us with so many sleepers, T-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, etc. that we met our goal. We thank you!”

The team at the Oshkosh Retail Store and Training Center is preparing another donation of baby items for a summer assembly crew.
